Professor of Art Mark Lavatelli, who has been practicing encaustic painting for thirty years, will exhibit new encaustic paintings, monotypes and installations, opening on Friday, October 6 (First Fridays) from 6 to 9 p.m. and continuing through November 5 at Indigo Art Gallery, 47 Allen Street in Buffalo.

Tree forms, long a mainstay of Lavatelli’s oeuvre, remain discernible, and coexist with colored stripes of varying lengths, widths, and directions.  The stripes reveal his enthusiasm for color and move the works toward abstraction.  Most of the work was done during Lavatelli’s recent sabbatical leave, which included a four week residency at the Vermont Studio Center.
