Team Medaille participates in a local community literacy based service learning event. With over 100 volunteers, Team Medaille helped to make KidsLit Week and the 2017 Western New York Children’s Book Expo a success! Team Medaille included Dr. Macur and Dr. Quiqley, in addition to other campus administrators, faculty, staff, undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni. Medaille College was a collaborating partner with Monkey See…Monkey Do Children’s Bookstore of Clarence, NY and Read to Succeed Buffalo in sponsoring the Western New York Children’s Book Expo (WNYCBE). The event sponsor was Blue Cross Blue Shield. During KidsLit Week, the Department of Education sponsored a read aloud event with award winning WNY teacher, Maureen Roussi and a special author visit with Dr. Virginia Batchelor, who read her empowering book, Stop Calling Me That! My Name is Araminta. Dr. Batchelor was a featured local author at the WNYCBE culminating event at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center on November 11. In addition, the library and Department of Education sponsored a campus visit with artistrator E.B. Lewis, a world renowned artist and illustrator of children’s books. He was in town being spotlighted as a feature illustrator for the expo. The WNYCBE facilitated author visits to local area schools and included over 40 local, national and international authors and illustrators on site, who told stories, sang songs, signed books, held meet and greets and participated in an educator’s professional development workshop. Pictured are some of the Team Medaille Volunteers who assisted with the WNYCBE events.
