Steven MacMartin, director of Medaille’s bachelor’s degree program in homeland security and a clinical assistant professor at the College, discussed the June 12 Orlando nightclub shooting during appearances on WBEN-AM radio, WKBW-TV, and Time Warner Cable News.

As MacMartin explained during his interview on WKBW-TV, a mass shooting could happen anywhere. However, he stresses that Americans need not live in fear.

“I’m not advocating we change our lives,” MacMartin said. “But if [we step up our] safety concerns [and] precautions just a little bit, a [tragedy] like this might be avoided.”

He advises anyone attending an event with a large gathering of people to pay close attention to the location of exists.
