I really enjoyed the teaching aspect of my jobs and decided I would enjoy working in the education field. I served as a tenured Professor of Accounting at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater for thirteen years. I served as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Online Learning at Edgewood College in Wisconsin. Most recently before Medaille, I was the Provost and Dean of Bethany College in Kansas.
Tell us about your typical work day…
Right now, it is “one long drink from the fire hose.” I am getting to know the people, processes and everything from where is the coffeemaker located to learning the systems of the college and how campus works. We are looking at what we can do this year to plant seeds for financial rewards and long term planning for growth and success.
My days consist of many meetings! I meet with the Vice Presidents and Cabinet on a regular basis. I have also met with donors, foundation leaders, Mayor Brown, two college Presidents in the area and the alumni association.
What is your favorite part of working at Medaille?
I really enjoy walking around the campus, showing up in offices and saying hello! Everyone is great and we all need a break to just talk about anything. It is nice to be informal and get to know people.
What are your interests and hobbies?
Hobbies come and go, but I like to stay active, I love to golf and activities that quiet my mind. I am currently looking for a yoga studio. I have two children who I enjoy spending time with and my wife, Franziska and I love to read.
If you could eat dinner with one famous person, who would it be?
Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat Pray Love. She is a really insightful person and I love her conversations about creativity.
Describe yourself in 3 words…
Driven. Thought-full. Receptive.
If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why?
New Zealand – it is really far from any place I have been.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you like to have with you?
Red wine with a twist-off cap, the 7th Harry Potter book- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and a match.
