Catherine Kaness, Admissions Counselor, Adult & Graduate Admissions
What is your education and background?
I received an Associate’s Degree from Monroe Community College in Communication and Media Studies. I transferred to Buffalo State College where I earned my Bachelor Degree in Communication Studies. While attending Monroe Community College I was given the chance to work in the Career and Transfer Center, and quickly realized that I like working in the Higher Education setting. I liked the feeling of helping students realize what their career goals were and also helping them transfer to the next phase in their educational chapter. The September after I graduated from Buffalo State I was hired with Medaille and I have been employed here for a little over a year now.
Tell us about your typical work day…
My typical work day is divided In Rochester. I pull double duty if you will, I am an Admissions Counselor and focus on our associate level programs which include Business and Vet-Tech. I talk to prospective students, work them throughout the funnel from inquiry – to applicant- to hopeful confirmed. But I also do Administrative duties for Admissions, so I work with all applications that come through for the on-ground programs we have on campus. I also help with organizing and putting on any events we may be hosting.

My favorite part about working at Medaille is the people I work with. We all have such a great relationship they make coming to work each day enjoyable.

Please tell a success story while working here at Medaille or a favorite Medaille memory.
My most successful story so far here at Medaille was when I had a student who was very much on the fence about attending Medaille College. We had gone back and forth with why it was great opportunity to attend here, and how the program and the structure was one of a kind. The week of the new start she made the final decision to attend, and I felt so happy to know I helped her make that decision. Since she started she has thanked me for not giving up and she loves her classmates and the program.
