Clabeaux

Dr. Bernadette Clabeaux, Clinical Assistant Professor, Veterinary and Natural Sciences

What is your education and background?

I earned my B.S. in Biology from Medaille in 2005, and then earned both of my M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University at Buffalo in 2008 and 2011, respectively.  I was an adjunct instructor at Butler Community College in Sharon, PA.  And after moving back to Buffalo in 2013, I taught at Erie Community College.  In 2014, I was hired at Medaille as a Visiting Instructor and now I am a Clinical Assistant Professor.

Tell us about your typical work day…

I come into work about an hour and a half early, I prepare some coffee/tea and work in my office until lecture.  Then I teach my lecture courses.  In between lectures, I work in my office and my door is always open for students to stop by and chat about lecture and life.

What is your favorite part of working at Medaille?

The students – I love getting to know my students and hearing about their life experiences. I also appreciate the family-like atmosphere on campus.

What are your interests and hobbies?

I enjoy hiking, wildlife rehab, working out and gardening.  I love taking care of my pound puppy, Buddy.

If you cold eat dinner with one famous person, who would it be?

Well, she may not be world famous, but she was in my eyes.  I would love to have dinner with my Grandma Julia one more time.  She was such an inspiration to me and was so encouraging.  I aspire to show others the same love she showed me.

If they made a movie about your life, what would it be about and which actor would you want to play you?

It would hopefully be inspirational, upbeat and entertaining. I think Jennifer Aniston would be ideal to play me because she seems so down to earth.

Please tell a success story while working here at Medaile (or a favorite Medaille memory/story)

I was awarded Medaille’s Mentoring Award in Faculty Excellence in Spring 2015 for my dedication to the students here at Medaille.  I was so touched and felt so honored.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you like to have with you?

My hubby, my dog and coffee!
