The Freshman Summer Read and Intercultural Dialogues would like to thank everyone that participated in our “What’s in a Name” Open Mic Event on Wednesday October 17, 2018. Inspired by the 2018 Summer Read, Boy, Snow, Bird by Helen Oyeyemi, members of the Medaille community shared their thoughts on names and about the meaning of names in their own lives. Many talked about about their family names, first names, nicknames and what those names mean to them, and there was even an original acoustic song performed!

Thank you to Dr. Lori Quigley for being the emcee for the event and for sharing her stories about her own names. Also, special thanks to the library for hosting.

Please join us for some future events:

On Tuesday, November 13 at 6 p.m., the Intercultural Dialogues Committee will host a Film Event. We will be showing Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette.

On Thursday November 14 from 6-8 p.m., the Freshman Read Gallery Night will take place in the President’s Dining Room. Students will present creative works related to the storyline, themes and symbols in Boy, Snow, Bird.
