Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from sex discrimination in educational programs and activities at institutions that receive federal financial assistance.
Medaille College is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination on the basis of sex. Medaille College provides many resources to students, faculty and staff to address concerns relating to discrimination on the basis of sex, which includes sexual misconduct.
Patrick McDonald, Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research and Planning, oversees and provides leadership for the activities of Title IX, the administrators who carry out investigations, compliance-related responsibilities and reporting. He also leads the College’s efforts in relation to campus climate and gender, and oversees education and training campus-wide on sex discrimination and sexual misconduct.
Title IX coordinator responsibilities
Medaille College has a senior administrator assigned as a Title IX coordinator (Patrick McDonald) to resolve complaints and address issues of gender-based discrimination and sexual misconduct within that school. The coordinator’s responsibilities include:
- Tracking and monitoring incidents, including sex discrimination and sexual misconduct
- Ensuring that the University responds effectively to each complaint; and
- Where appropriate, conducting investigations of particular situations.
The Title IX Coordinator is knowledgeable about, and will provide information on, all options for complaint resolution. The Title IX Coordinator also works closely with the Office for Human Resources, the Medaille Public Safety Office, and the Office of Student Affairs.
All of these offices play an integral role in carrying out the College’s commitment to provide a positive learning, teaching and working environment for the entire community.
