This Thursday at 7:00 pm, on the 4th floor of the Main Building, the Write Thing Reading Series will be hosting local poet Sherry Robbins. I have heard Sherry read, and I can assure you she treats language with both delicacy and boldness. Many of the local poets call her the best in town, and she has been applauded as such at least once by Art Voice. If you can, please join us, and invite your students as well. Refreshments are served, and there is no admission.
If you’d like to know more about Sherry, here is both a link to a poem by her, and her reading it, as well as the bio she sent:
Sherry Robbins is a poet and teaching artist. She has conducted creative writing workshops throughout New York State and abroad since 1977 and was named the New York State Teaching Artist of the Year for 2005. She is currently an arts-in-education consultant for the University of Coimbra in Portugal and for Portugal’s Belgais Center for the Study of Arts. As the owner of Orchard Press and co-owner of Weird Sisters Press, Sherry printed letterpress works of poetry for her own and for other small presses.
Sherry has two chapbooks of poetry, Snapshots of Paradise and Or, the Whale, as well as the complete edition of Or, the Whale recently published by Blazevox books, and dozens of poems published in literary journals and anthologies here and in Spain and Portugal, including Earth’s Daughters, Salmagundi, Denver Quarterly and Poets at Work
Have a great week, and I hope we will see you Thursday,
Mary Louise Hill
