I am reaching out to you on behalf of the Employee Engagement Committee. Next month, on November 9 from 12:30pm to 1:00pm (Common Hour), Employee Engagement Committee will be hosting a repair clinic for our students, something that I hope can one day become a Medaille tradition.

What is the repair clinic?

The repair clinic will be an event where volunteers comprised of faculty and staff gather to fix students’ rips and missing buttons, jammed zippers, backpack straps, stuffed animals, and more.

Why have a repair clinic?
In the many capacities where you have had the privilege of working with students, you know that students do their best when free of distractions like a hole in a backpack or a rip in their winter coat. This is also a great way to promote sustainability by repairing items that might have otherwise been thrown out. Lastly, it’s an additional opportunity for us to connect with our students outside of our classrooms and our offices.

What can I do to help?

If you know your way around a needle and thread, sewing machine or serger, even if you know how to knit one and purl two, we would love if you could share just 30 minutes of your time to help out a student needing something patched or mended, maybe even hemmed or taken in. If you are interested in volunteering your time, experience, and some of your materials, please reply to me so I can sign you up. I cannot guarantee the number of students who will attend, but what I can guarantee is how grateful the students who do attend will be that you helped give a well-loved item a breath of new life! I am hoping to have at least 10 volunteers, and I will also be present assisting with repair requests/showing interested students how to knit.

I will send out a notification to students a week or two prior to the event and I will also be hanging up flyers for the event to spread the word. Even if you are unable to attend or volunteer, you can also assist me by sharing the information of the event with the students in your classes and who visit your offices.

Where will this be located?

We will be hosting this event on the Buffalo campus in the Sullivan Center at the Student Development suite at the long conference table when you first enter Student Development.

Will there be refreshments?

Yes! We will have warm beverage items – coffee, hot chocolate, and cider

Thank you in advance for your time and energy! Please do not hesitate reach out for any questions regarding the event!
