Dr. Matt Bowker (Dept. of Interdisciplinary Studies) recently published an article entitled, “Analytical and Political Neutrality: Change, Privilege, and Responsibility” in the latest issue (no. 71) of the journal, Free Associations. It considers and critiques, among other things, arguments concerning the necessity of “taking sides,” attributions of collective moral responsibility, as reflected in part by a well-known debate between James Baldwin and Margaret Mead, the meaning of the term, “privilege,” and the slogan, “silence is violence.”
