Dr. Casey Thomas Jakubowski, an Assistant Professor of Education, will be presenting a paper on rural school reform in New York State at the national History of Education Society.

The paper examines a moment in time in Western New York rural school opposition to consolidation and reform. Focused on the community of Kiantone, NY, (south of Jamestown) the paper examines how a group of residents stood in opposition to a vote that disadvantaged their beliefs and values for their local schools. Their actions led to a change in state law and created a re-affirmation of local control in the state.
