Internationally recognized behavioral couples therapy (BCT) expert Keith Klostermann, Ph.D., LMFT, LMHC, an assistant professor in Medaille’s master’s in marriage and family therapy program, was interviewed by the Associated Press for a story (published in Army Times and other outlets) about the recent murder of New York State Trooper in northern New York State. According to authorities, the state trooper was shot to death by a soldier who had just killed his wife. The soldier was stationed at Fort Drum in Jefferson County.

Dr. Klostermann told the AP that there are features of military life that can strain individuals and relationships.

“This is a huge issue, and it requires more attention,” Dr. Klostermann told the AP. “From a scientific perspective, we need to better understand this phenomenon and how best we can help these families.”

In 2012, Dr. Klostermann authored a paper on intimate partner violence involving military service members and veterans.
