Dr. Belete Mebratu was the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Senior Specialist Program Candidacy award. He took a sabbatical Leave in the fall of 2015 to travel to Ethiopia as part of this Fulbright honor. During his stay in Ethiopia, Dr. Mebratu taught classes at Bahir Dar University and Addis Ababa Science and Technology University. He also participated in curriculum review activities and organized faculty professional development for instructors on best teaching and pedagogical practices in the university setting.

During the summer of 2016, Dr. Mebratu continued his work at both universities and was pleased to be the lead plenary session paper presenter at an annual international conference. His paper was entitled “Challenges and Strategies of the Nexus among Educational Research, Policy and Practice: Others’ Experiences.” He also organized a one-day workshop for faculty, school principals and Education Bureau officials in Ethiopia on the same topic.

Dr. Mebratu currently is working in Ethiopia this academic year on a research project in the areas of quality, assessment systems, and accreditation of higher education in Ethiopian universities. Additionally, he facilitates student exchange programs and faculty research collaborations between Medaille and Ethiopian universities.
