On Saturday November 6, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Medaille College, Dr. Caitlin Riegel, presented at the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) Conference in Chicago, IL. Her presentaiton, titled “Modeling the use of Interactive Presentation Platforms in Teacher Education,” focused on demonstrating how teacher educators can use interactive presentations in their own applications of teaching to enhance the pedagogical approaches of future educators.

Dr. Riegel’s presentation called upon Albert Bandura’s social learning theory that states people learn from one another, via observation, imitation, and modeling. She introduced teacher educators to interactive instructional technology tools and modeled the expected practice by utilizing the platform to administer the conference presentation. Dr. Riegel addressed the unique responsibility teacher educators have to not only teach content in their courses, but also model the appropriate and expected practices for future teachers, which includes the use of pedagogical approaches made possible by technology. The presentation concluded by having participants join an interactive presentation to gain a better understanding of the possibilities for student engagement. The relevance of this presentation is critical for faculty of Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) looking to model best practices with instructional technology for their future educators.
