Dr. Riegel Presents at International Society for Educational Planning (ISEP) Conference
On Thursday October 14, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Medaille College, Dr. Caitlin Riegel, presented at the International Society for Educational Planning (ISEP) Conference. Her presentaiton, titled “The Sustainability of Virtual Courses in Educator Preparation Programs,” focused on evaluating the effectiveness of virtual course delivery during the time of covid-19 to determine the sustainability of virtual course delivery in educator preparation programs.
Dr. Riegel’s presentation centered on a current research initiative in the data collection phase designed to identify the type of education courses, if any, that lend themselves to effective virtual/hybrid course delivery, the challenges and advantages to delivering education courses during the covid-19 pandemic, and to what extent virtual/hybrid courses are sustainable in education programs. Dr. Riegel addressed international literature that has begun outlining what educator preparation programs across the globe have done when it comes to online course delivery pre- and post-pandemic. The developed methodology and instrumentation were shared in the presentation, which concluded by having participants discuss feelings/experiences regarding virtual courses in teacher education, as well as future decisions and policies. The relevance of this presentation is vital for Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) looking to remain a viable option to future teacher educators operating in a post-pandemic, online world.
