For those interested in the study of social withdrawal and perceptions of related behaviors, such as shyness and unsociability, the following link will take you to an article just published in the Journal of Adolescence.

It is the first (ever) study of social withdrawal to include respondents from an African country, in this case, Nigeria, in Sub-Saharan West Africa.

Dr. Matt Bowker (Div. of Liberal Arts and Communication), along with his wife, Dr. Julie Bowker (Dept. of Psychology, University at Buffalo, SUNY), and Dr. Adesola Ojo (Dept. of Psychology, University of Lagos) conducted the study in the hope of advancing cross-cultural research on the psycho-social correlates of social withdrawal, and of extending the reach of psychological understanding to countries in Africa.
