First-Year Experience Welcomes Author, Motivational Speaker and Community Activist Sha-Teek Howze to the Speaker Series
Main Building 333 was the setting this past Monday February 12 for the First-Year Experience and Developmental Education Speaker Series presentation, featuring Sha-Teek Howze, Sr., entitled “Triumph over Tragedy.” The title of his book is What Did I Say? It’s Something Like Poetry! Howze met with Dr. Ramsey and Medaille undergrads, and he recounted his early childhood struggles in Buffalo’s Langfield Housing Projects, lengthy incarceration, and redemption from a life of crime and violence to his present life’s work as an Intensive Case Manager at the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Community Center. There, he works with youths fighting against many of the same issues that Howze had to overcome himself. Author Sha-Teek Howze, Sr.’s message was graphic, powerful and inspirational. He encouraged students to set self-improvement goals, through education, and keep them.
