A panel comprised of five faculty and students from Interdisciplinary Studies and Criminal Justice recently presented at the “Beyond the Classroom: Community-Engaged Teaching and Research” Conference sponsored by Partners for Campus-Community Engagement at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. The team discussed their experiences with the NEH-funded applied ethics in criminal justice project in their panel titled “Applied Ethics in Criminal Justice at Medaille College: A Cross-Disciplinary, Community-Engaged Project.”

Faculty members Dr. Alice Villaseñor, Dr. Jerry Erion, and Dr. Tim McCorry talked about bringing their expertise in community-based learning, ethics, and criminal justice together to benefit the interdisciplinary curricular project. The students each presented their research projects, which came out of their “CRJ 355: Social Issues in Policing a Multicultural Community” Spring 2022 community-engaged learning partnership with the Buffalo City Mission. Criminal Justice major and Campus Public Safety Officer, Dimarius Leamon, presented on “Policing, Security, and Homeless Shelters.” Recent International Studies major graduate, Byanca Temmons-Barnwell, talked about “How Using the SARA Model Can Help Reduce and Prevent Acute Homelessness.”
