Julianna Woite Publishes Historical Fiction Novel
This summer, Julianna Woite, a Digital Learning Technologist in the Office of Online Learning and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Education, released the historical fiction novel, Our Invisible String. Set amidst the backdrop of Buffalo’s 125th Anniversary/World Port Celebration and Elvis’s 1957 concert at Memorial Auditorium, the story explores life, love, and rock and roll in 1957 Buffalo. Wanting to use details and locations that were personally meaningful, Woite included a few shout-outs to the Medaille family, including a heroine who is a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Teachers College (our name prior to Medaille) who then worked as a Medaille adjunct. Readers will recognize many more familiar settings including Bennett High School, Canisus High School, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Akron Falls and Delaware Park.
A perk of the book is that it comes with free resources for schools and book-clubs on Woite’s author website (juliannawoite.com ). The site also contains extensive information and links highlighting the real history of the people, places and events mentioned in the novel. This fall, Woite will begin presentations and historical tours to complement the book. The first, sponsored by Monkey See Monkey Do Bookstore, will take place on October 8 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pictured is Woite at a book signing for Buffalo Shop Craft in the Elmwood Village on August 13.
