Medaille Faculty and Staff Participate in 2016 United Way Day of Caring
Faculty and staff from Medaille College were honored to participate in the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County and the United Way of Greater Rochester Day of Caring on August 17. Thousands of volunteers came together for Western New York’s largest annual community service event, tackling hands-on projects throughout the area.
Participants from the College took on a variety of projects, including cleaning and gardening at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo William C. Baird Clubhouse, painting and lawn maintenance for None Like You/We Care Outreach in Buffalo, and cleaning and weeding the lion enclosure at the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester.

Yesterday, in addition to weeding we were treated to a demonstration in the inner sanctum where the trainer worked with one of the females, getting her to raise her paw to the chain link fence he was standing at, having her stand upright against it, opening her mouth against it (all of these to check her teeth, underbelly, etc.) and quickly rewarded with raw meat. We were 3 feet away watching this take place! These are amazing creatures and much larger than they look from afar. Up close they are breathtaking. What a thrill for all of us! Best Day of Caring EVER!
