Medaille College is pleased to announced that it is the recipient of a challenge grant from M&T Bank for its new Laboratory and Science Center of Tomorrow (LSCT). The grant will match all donations up to $250,000 that are received through the Medaille College Partnerships for Opportunity Comprehensive Campaign.

The M&T Match Grant is a critical component in helping Medaille cover the costs of the new facility.  The estimated construction cost of the LSCT is $1,076.250. Of this, $240,000 has already been raised from corporations, foundations and individuals.

The new LSCT, which will be housed within the third floor of the Medaille Campus Main Building, will provide facilities and equipment for a wide range of academic programs. These programs will ensure that every student receives a coherent learning experience that connects foundational and discipline-specific learning, links theory and practice, and promotes student success in college and beyond to spur interest and ability in the sciences.

The center will also enable Medaille to expand the Science in Bloom program. Science in Bloom, a Community Foundation sponsored partnership between Medaille College and Valley Community Association, offers inquiry-based science activities to BPS students enrolled in the VCA after-school program. Expansion of laboratory facilities would increase the number of BPS students reached through the program.

“One of our most important assets in Western New York is the abundance of high-quality higher educational institutions,” said Shelley C. Drake, the M&T Charitable Foundation. “Supporting the development of programs at Medaille is an opportunity for us to invest in the education and career success of the next generation of our local students.”

“It is due to the direct support of M&T Bank, as well as a shared interest in the development of area youth, especially those from City neighborhoods, that Medaille can now capture students’ imaginations and challenge their understanding of science and technology,“ stated Richard T. Jurasek, Ph.D., president of Medaille College .  The generosity of M&T Bank for projects like the Science and Technology Laboratory allows Medaille to prepare today’s youth for tomorrow’s workforce and allows our students to realize the possibility of a career in the sciences right here in Western New York.”
