Professor Anderson on Steering Committee for Leeuwenhoek Year 2023 Celebration
Douglas Anderson, professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at Medaille and, since 2016, guest researcher at the Huygens Institute in Amsterdam, is serving on the steering committee that is coordinating events for Leeuwenhoek Year 2023, celebrating the 300th anniversary of the death of Antony van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723).
During Leeuwenhoek Year 2023, scientists, artists, microscopists, museums, educational institutions and companies throughout the Netherlands are taking the public on a voyage of discovery through the micro-universe. Activities include several biographies and journal articles and a comic book, as well as international exhibitions at the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden and the Royal Society in London and numerous activities in and around Delft, Leeuwenhoek’s hometown. In addition, the final three volumes of Alle de Brieven, the Collected Letters of Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, will be published, bringing to a close this publishing project that began in 1939. Anderson is the co-editor of those volumes.
