Did you know that correctional facilities, including county detention centers are a major arena for providing treatment for individuals with severe mental illness? Two PsyD students, Jamie Brylski and Elizabeth Randall presented posters at the Americal Psychological Association meeting in Toronto. They conducted research as part of their Diagnostic Practicum placements at Erie County Holding Center under the supervision of Drs. Daniel Antonius and Corey Leidenfrost (pictured here). Jamie’s paper, entitled Changes in Psychological Health and Subjective Well-Being Among Incarcerated Individuals with Severe Mental Illness, explores the potential response to mental health treatment within Erie County Detention Center. Beth’s paper, The Usefulness of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) Level of Care Index (LOCI) in a Forensic Population, explores the potential use of a tool for screening incarcerated individuals for the need for intensive treatment.
