Brian Filjones

Brian Filjones, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions

What is your education and background?
I attended SUNY Fredonia and earned my BS in Sociology and Psychology in 2005. I worked in retail for several years and in 2006 I enrolled at Buffalo State College to earn my master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration.  While pursuing my graduate degree, I interned at Hilbert College.  In October of 2008, I was hired at Medaille.
Tell us about your typical work day…
My calendar has cycles, so a typical day varies but everyday involves recruitment! I attend college fairs to recruit prospective students and work with guidance counselors in high schools to help drive a student’s admission process. When I am on campus, I am speaking to prospective students and their parents.  I see them through the entire process until it is complete.  Students can constantly contact me, whether it is through e-mails, calls and/or even texting.  I also coordinate the Honors Program here at Medaille for incoming students.
What is your favorite part of working at Medaille?
The people are the greatest! I have a second family here, we have fun and enjoy working together. I also enjoy the small campus feel and getting to know everyone dedicated to Medaille.
What are your interests and hobbies?
I enjoy spending time with my family – they help keep a balance in my life.  I love cars and working on cars. I also spend a lot of time on home improvements – I love working with my hands! My wife and I also enjoy making wine. I love the wine making process, everything from the grapes to the bottling and corking.
If you could eat dinner with one famous person, who would it be?
Sylvester Stallone.  He is interesting and entertaining! I really like his movies and what he does.
Please tell a success story while working here at Medaille (or favorite Medaille memory/story)
The best memory I have is the day I got the phone call telling me I got the job here! I have a vivid memory of the phone call and how I accepted right then and there. I was very excited!
If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why?
Anywhere tropical and all inclusive. I am also a big fan of ancient civilizations and would love to visit Athens, Greece and Rome, Italy.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you like to have with you?
My family, wine kit, and a tool box to fix things.
