Jennifer Harris, Director, TRiO Student Success Services
What is your education and background?
I attended Buffalo State College for both of my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I earned a bachelor’s degree in humanities and a minor in psychology. My master’s degree is in student personnel administration. I worked with TRiO for over eleven years with the Upward Bound and Academic Talent Search programs at Buffalo State. In September 2014, I started working at Medaille as the Assistant Director of the TRiO Student Support Services Program.
Tell us about your typical work day…
Each morning I am greeted by five to six students in the office – some of them just want to say hi, others want to tell me something exciting about their semester or they want to chat about something that is challenging them. Throughout the day, I have appointments with students in which we discuss different aspects of their education. My day is filled with helping students and assisting them with everyday needs. I also meet frequently with staff and members of the Medaille community.
What is your favorite part of working at Medaille?
The students! I enjoy meeting with them, seeing them smile and making a difference. I also enjoy being around like minded individuals, who are committed to the students.
What are your interests and hobbies?
Fashion is a big interest of mine. I love to keep up with the latest trends and going outside of the box. I love to transform different looks. I design jewelry – an accessory can change the whole outfit! I also love to travel, shop and read.
If you could eat dinner with one person, who would it be?
My dad. He passed away fifteen years ago. He taught me so much and I would like to tell him all about my life now and what a difference he made.
Describe yourself in 3 words…
Caring. Courageous. Creative.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you like to have with you?
Make-up. Soap. Toothbrush. I want to look good and smell good when I am rescued!
