Medaille College’s TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) was recently honored by the Minority Bar Association of Western New York (MBAWNY) as the recipient of the 2013 President’s Award. The award is given annually to an organization “whose mission supports not only the Minority Bar Association of Western New York as a whole, but its leaders and other members on individual and personal levels. Nominees must also demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and be proven leaders in our local community.”
The TRiO program was chosen for its impact on first generation college students through academic support and cultural programming, and was recognized for enhancing the quality of life in all of Western New York. Dr. Mary Ellen Mulvey, director of TRiO SSS, will be presented with the award at the MBAWNY’s 31st Annual Awards and Scholarship Dinner on September 12, 2013.
Stephanie Calhoun ’03 is the current President of the Minority Bar Association of WNY, and stated that the TRiO program was “instrumental in the foundation of my growth into the awesome career I now have today.” She is an assistant attorney general for the New York State Office of the Attorney General.
